History 1957 - 1969


1957
...Moth Fleet #24 chartered.
...Newt Wattis wins Moth North Americans



1958
...16 Lightnings, 12 Comets and 10 Moths in the racing program. 
...Voting members required to have at least 5 and not more than 100 Certificates of Indebtedness at $5 each, each Certificate entitling holder to one vote.
...Put up pipe and canvas "roof" on patio.



1959
...Auxiliary held first fashion show in conjunction with Sink 'r Swim. 
...Women challenged men to run the second supper of the seasn (they did with 115 attending).
 ...First race committee boat purchased.



1960
...Black-topped boat year.
...Low point scoring system with throw-outs initiated. 
...Hurricane Donna played havoc with docks and boats.



1961
...Early Bird Lightning Series started
...Auxiliary collected green stamps to get large pots. 
...Dr. Claude Sullivan donated the Claude C. Sullivan Trophy for the winner of the Lightning Commodore Series. VIEW
...George Bowles, then owner of the Surf City Hotel, donated trophy for the Labor Day Series. VIEW
...Family Day held on Labor day with lunch, games, father's race and presentation of season racing trophies.



1962
...First mid-winter dinner dance.
...Work details needed to clean up after big March storm - club escaped major damage.
 ...Another new patio cover.
...10 boats,32 people and 1 cat attended the Power Boat Picnic. 
...Moth Fleet divided to  A & B classes.



1963
...Agreed to subsidize the Commodore's Cocktail Party to $150. ...12 Lightnings, 13 Comets, 23 Moths and 6 Sneakboxes were racing. 
...Dues were Voting $30, family Voting $35, Associate $20, Junior and Intermediate $10.



1964
...South boatyard extended 150' to end f 9th Street, second davit installed and present "A" dock constructed.
 ...Moth Fleet divided again to A, B and Girls. 
...Joined North Jersey Yacht Racing Association. 
...Lost another awning; permanent patio roof built. 
...Purchased lots 39 and 40, block 106 for $5000. 
...Members assessed $10 to defray cost of first steward.
...Barry Lewis wins Junior Moth North Americans



1965
...Auxiliary donated Port and Starboard lights for club entrance. ...Patio extension - members donated blocks, had name in concrete. 
...60 boats in wet storage
...Built Moth ramp



1966
...North bulkhead reinforced with new piling to supplement the original badly eroded piling.
...Moved Moths to north yard, davit installed north bulkhead.
...First Golf Classic.
...19 students in first sailing class.
...George & Raymond Vandegrift donated the Adon Horsley Memorial Trophy. VIEW
...Rest rooms south side 9th Street remodeled to make storage area and workshop.



1967
...First Sunfish races held.
...17 Comets from 10 yacht clubs attended the first Fall Comet Regatta.
...Additional slips along west bulkhead south side 9th Street. 
...purchased 13' Salem Skiff for sailing program.



1968
...Flag mast donated by the Horsley Family in memory of Adon Horsley,
 PC.
...Record 120 boats participated in the Annual Regatta.



1969
...Beginning of Ladies Fun Sailing
 ...Started racing Senior Sunfish.
...Season trophies were awarded on Labor Day
...Acquired White Anchor Marina waterfront (lots 25, 27and 29, block 105) for $27,000.
...One man/one vote approved.  All voting members entitled t one vote provided they hold at least 10 Certificates of Indebtedness.
